Most holiday activities keep a child busy, then evaporate. The football camp ends. The slime dries up. The certificate goes in a drawer nobody opens again. We wanted to build the opposite of that, something a child keeps.

Questions parents ask

Is my child a good enough writer for this?

Yes. This workshop is not for finished writers. It is for children with stories inside them. Whether your child writes constantly or has never finished a story, Jele meets them where they are. The two tracks (ages 9 to 11 and 12 to 14) mean every child works at the right level. What we need from them is not skill. It is willingness.

How does the workshop work?

Three stages over two weeks. First, four live Zoom sessions where Jele teaches the foundations of African storytelling. Then children write at home and send their drafts to Jele by email.He reads every story personally and sends written feedback, and they revise together until the story is ready. Finally, children return to the live class to present their finished stories before they are compiled into the anthology.

A 14-year-old is really the teacher?

Yes; and that is the point. Jele published his first book at 10, with a foreword written by Professor Yemi Osinbajo, then Vice President of Nigeria. He delivered a TEDx talk on African storytelling at 11 and has written four published books. Children listen differently to someone who has actually done what they are trying to do, and did it at their age. Adult supervision and support run behind every session.

Is it actually published on Amazon, or a PDF you're calling a book?

Actually published. The anthology is released on Amazon as a paperback and Kindle ebook, with its own listing, searchable worldwide. Every child receives a printed copy delivered to their home. A free PDF is also made available so schools and communities can access it; in addition to the real book, not instead of it.

Who owns my child's story?

Your child does. Always. Copyright stays with them permanently. You simply grant permission for the story to appear in this anthology, which Jele compiles and edits, the same way every literary anthology in the world works. Your child is free to publish the same story anywhere else, anytime. Contributors receive attribution and a printed copy rather than royalties, which is the standard arrangement for anthology contributors everywhere ; and any proceeds funds the work of Mirroring our World Initiative across Africa.
